The Lao Teacher Development Project

a collaborative effort to share resources in child-centered, activity-based, multisensory learning strategies through five-day workshops.

Workshop Objectives:

To provide rural Lao primary school teachers with examples of activity-based lessons, related to the core curriculum, that they can easily repeat in their own classroom. These lessons are short in duration, simple, and require few teaching materials.

To demonstrate the Experiential Learning Process (do, reflect, apply) in multiple subject areas and classroom contexts.

To create a supportive environment in which Lao teachers work in grade-level groups to design activity-based lessons of their own.

To provide opportunities for practicum, in which the teachers facilitate lessons for their peers, receive constructive feedback, and make modifications to their lesson plans before teaching the activities with local children in a classroom setting.
